Networking Devices

INTERNET IS ALL ABOUT CONNECTIONS AND PROTOCOLS.
MODEM VS ROUTER:
MODEM:
MODEM is a translator between ISP and computer. Its main purpose is converting ISP signals which are in form of cable or fibre into digital packets/data as computer understand digital signals only. MODEM gives only one connection that is from INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER TO USER (does not create wifi).
here ISP could be jio, airtel.BSNL.
ROUTER:
IT IS JUST LIKE “TRAFIC POLICE+WIFI GIVER”
Router decides where should data go. Main purpose of router is it take one internet connection share it with many devices that’s how it creates WIFI and assign private IP address to each device.
The main work of this in Software engineering field is that Router does NETWORK ADDRESS TRANSLATION i.e. it converts Private IP into Public IP(only of one connection) then only we can access one internet in multiple devices.
SWITCH VS HUB:
HUB:
HUB IS A “STUPID REPEATER “
Hub sends data to everyone whether needed or not. Hub is not secure, slow and causes collision of data packets.
SWITCH:
SWITCH is like a POSTMAN who delivers letter to exact house, not whole street . It uses MAC address to deliver the message , data packet to exact/correct device.
SWITCH A “SMART DISTRIBUTOR
BACKEND SERVERS ARE CONNECTED VIA SWITCHES. AND ALSO SWITCHES LEADS TO FAST INTERNAL COMMUNICATION*.*
FIREWALL:
“SECURITY GUARD”
Firewall checks IP ADDRESS, PORTS, PROTOCOLS, RULES . It basically block hackers, allow only required traffic .
YOUR BACKEND APIs ARE PROTECTED BY FIREWALLS . ONLY CERTAIN PORTS OPEN (e.g. , 443 for HTTPS)
LOAD BALANCER:
"TRAFIC DISTRIBUTOR FOR SERVERS”
We need load balancer as there are too many users, one server crashes due to traffic, load balancer basically spreads load on multiple servers .
WE USE IT TO DEPLOY MULTIPLE BACKEND INSTANCES
Load balancer decides which server handles request.
INTERNET FLOW:
